When I was in high school, I actually enjoyed the 15 minutes of reading we were forced to do. I’m not a fast reader or even an enthusiast, I just enjoyed taking that time to escape my day for a few moments and maybe learn something new.
Since becoming a blogger and wedding photographer, I wasn’t making time to read…ever. I even bought a few books every year, but would only get through one during the summer if I was lucky. I found myself constantly running around, in the car, or with “too many” things on my to-do list, and making time to read went out the window.
In the past 2 years though, I have really fallen in love with podcasts. I found it was a great way for me to absorb information on-the-go, or without having to find the book I was last reading. In early 2017, I realized there were a lot of business books I’d love to have the time to read, but I just didn’t. So, I tried Audible and LOVED it!!
How it Works
I’m sharing all of this to say, as busy bosses, we need to make time for ourselves. We need to reinvest, keep learning, and trying new things.
This Boss Book Club will help hold us all accountable to make time for ourselves. What is unique about the books I’ve chosen for 2017 is that they are actually self-help books. Some I read last year and think they should be a requirement for every creative boss, others I have just been dying to read! I think you would enjoy each of them.
There is no actually commitment beyond taking the time to read or listen to the chosen book during the 2 months allotted. I will share my thoughts on the book from time to time on our Instagram account and I’d love for you to share as well using the hashtag #bubblyreads!
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
I thought The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo would be the perfect book to start off the new year with. I’ve heard about this book and method several times, and I’m sure you have too, but when I listened to the Self-Helpless Podcast girls talking about it in this episode, I knew I had to give it a try!
One of the best things we can do for ourselves as business owners is make sure our house is in order! I know I struggle with working from home when clutter is stressing me out or I feel like I’m surrounded by things I don’t even want.
In this book, we’ll learn how to hold onto the things that bring us joy and let go of what doesn’t. By getting rid of those things, we allow more room for life, experiences, and joy in our lives. I am very excited to read this book and make some major changes in my home!
Have you read this one before?! Tell me what you thought and if you ended up loving any of the practices taught!
