I fall for all things orange during the fall and red and green all December long. (Did ya like that rhyme?) Even though I adore all the seasonal decorations, the colors don’t necessarily go with my branded Instagram feed. There is a way to prepare your Instagram feed for the holiday colors by sprinkling them in, if that’s what you want to do.
First of all, hopefully you already have a color scheme you stick to in your Instagram feed. Most of the time, your feed will reflect the colors you like most. If you aren’t sure of your colors off the top of your head, go to ColorKuler to help you figure it out!
On my personal Instagram account, @morgananderson.co, I like using a lot of white space. I generally share photos that have blues, greens, yellows, and pinks. The white space in my photos let me use a variety of colors. So, during the holidays I just incorporate holiday colors with a white backdrop or white space. I will still use my other colors.
My friend Meredith of @cakeandconfetti posts photos that are mostly pink. From November to December you will see her feed incorporate more and more red. Her photos might even have red and pink in them to help with the transition!
The point is, you don’t want your followers to be shocked, or not realize you’re the one behind the post if they are just scrolling through. Here are a few ways you can make the transition.
I love using Planoly to plan out my Instagram posts a month in advance. You can plan out posts with photos you would usually use in your feed, then plan a holiday post inbetween a few of them. You can do all of this by keeping your posts “unscheduled.” You’ll be able to move the photos around until you’re happy with the layout, then you can schedule them!
Take your own photos
Stock photos are such a great tool to use, but I really believe in sharing things from our lives on Instagram. Take a photo of your desk or workspace with holiday decor incorporated. You don’t have to buy anything new! Use what you already have.
Document things like wrapping gifts, writing Christmas cards, and family outings! Your audience will love seeing what you’re up to during the holiday season!

Don’t forget to unplug!
Once you’ve prepped your Instagram feed for the holidays and scheduled all your posts with Planoly, don’t forget to put your phone done. The holidays are meant to be spent with family and friends. Give yourself a break, and unplug for the important moments!
